FAQs

IS PUP CULTURE RESCUE A SHELTER?

No, we are a foster-based 501c3 rescue that pulls dogs from shelters and puts them into loving foster homes. We rely solely on donations and do not get any government funding.

WHERE DOES PUP CULTURE RESCUE GET DOGS FROM?

Our dogs come from Southern California and beyond. We pull dogs from shelters, say yes to dogs that have been surrendered by their owners, work with international rescuers, and take in neglected dogs born or left on the street. There are no limitations as to where we are willing to take dogs from.

WHAT DOES MY MONETARY DONATION GO TOWARDS?

We are beyond appreciative of any and all donations made to Pup Culture Rescue. All donations go towards the well-being of our dogs. This can be anything from food and supplies to surgeries, training, and rehabilitation. You can see some examples of what your money is going towards.

WHY RESCUE DOGS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA?

Our goal is to provide quality care to as many dogs as we can. While there is no doubt that Los Angeles has plenty of dogs in-need there are also a lot of amazing rescue organizations in Southern California making a difference. There are so many developing countries whose streets are overpopulated with dogs. It is not a priority to spay, neuter, and vaccinate dogs and the facilities to do so there are sparse. Often their solutions are heartbreaking, resorting to poisoning, gassing, and other inhumane ways. If there are dogs in-need beyond our borders and we have the vets and resources here to help, why wouldn’t we?

HOW CAN I HELP IF I CAN’T DONATE?

There are so many ways to help, both in-person and remotely! Do you take great photos? Come photograph some of our adoptable dogs. Are you a people person? Volunteer at one of our adoption events or fundraisers! Do you have time to transport dogs? We are always looking for volunteers to transport dogs to/from vet appointments, training, etc. Are you a great writer? Help us write Instagram captions, PetFinder descriptions, and apply for grants! Please email us at adopt@pupculturerescue.org to offer your expertise or inquire about volunteer opportunities.

Adoption
FAQs

HOW DO I MAKE MY ADOPTION APPLICATION STAND OUT?

We look for personality and transparency in the applications we receive. Don’t be afraid to be yourself and go into detail. Oftentimes we get many qualified applicants but we ultimately choose the adopter who seems most compatible with the dog in question.

WHAT DOES MY ADOPTION FEE COVER?

The adoption fee you pay does not go directly towards your dog. To be frank, an adoption fee rarely covers the cost of a dog’s needs while in our care in an expensive and major city like Los Angeles. The fee is a donation that goes towards future Pup Culture Rescue dogs. See “What does my monetary donation go towards?” for a more in-depth explanation of our rescue’s day-to-day charges.

ONCE APPROVED, WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY MEET-AND-GREET WITH MY POTENTIAL DOG?

Please bring a leash and collar with ID tag to your meet-and-greet in case it is a match in which case you can take the dog home that same day. If there are any questions about sizing, don’t hesitate to ask the dog’s foster for measurements or guidance.

WHAT SUPPLIES SHOULD I BUY FOR MY NEW PUPPY?

There are so many puppy supplies on the market. Here are what we would consider necessities:

  • Puppy food

  • Leash

  • Collar with ID tag (we will happily be your 2nd contact)

  • Harness

  • Puppy pads (if your puppy isn’t fully vaccinated and you live in an apartment)

  • Food and water bowls

  • Chew Toys

  • Crate (we recommend a larger crate with removable divider)

  • Crate bedding

  • Flea/tick control & heart worm medicine (speak with your vet)

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY NEWLY ADOPTED DOG IS HAVING BEHAVIORAL ISSUES THAT ARE MAKING ME RECONSIDER?

Please contact your adoption coordinator immediately. Pup Culture Rescue can offer guidance and recommend a trainer to help!

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY NEWLY ADOPTED DOG IS EXPERIENCING MEDICAL PROBLEMS WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH HOME?

Please reach out to your adoption coordinator immediately explaining your concerns before going to the vet. Pup Culture Rescue makes no promises, guarantees, or commitments to assist with medical care any time after adoption, but rather the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis. Pup Culture Rescue cannot consider assisting if no contact was made before taking the dog to the vet.

CAN I ADOPT A PUREBRED DOG FROM YOUR RESCUE ORGANIZATION?

Contrary to popular belief, rescues do acquire purebred dogs but we cannot predict what breed or when. Please follow us on Instagram @pupculturerescue to be the first to know of any new adoptable dogs.

We also ask that you keep an open mind when looking to adopt as there are plenty of sweet and loving mutts in-need that are non-shedding, not included on renters’ breed restriction lists, etc.

Foster
FAQs

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AS A NEW FOSTER?

While fostering is fun and rewarding, it is also a commitment. We require our fosters to make a minimum commitment of two-weeks but always prefer they commit to fostering the dog until they get adopted.

We also ask that our foster be willing to take their foster dog to vet appointments, if needed, scheduled by the adoption coordinator. Pup Culture Rescue provides fosters with any necessary supplies. This includes food, a leash and collar, a crate, and any medication needed.

Since this is often the dog’s first time in a home, we ask that the foster be patient during the adjustment period, keeping a close eye on the dog. Pup Culture Rescue is not liable or financially responsible for any damages. For more information, please reference our foster manual here.

WHAT IF I FALL IN LOVE WITH MY FOSTER DOG AND WANT TO ADOPT THEM?

In rescue, we humorously call this a “foster fail.” We are always open to dogs being adopted by their fosters as long as we feel it’s a good fit and the dog doesn’t already have an approved adopter. To prevent this, please reach out to your adoption coordinator as soon as you’re thinking you may “fail” to discuss.

WHAT IF I APPLIED FOR A DOG AND HAVE NOT HEARD BACK?

We are a very small and passionate team of women balancing careers with 24/7 rescue volunteer work. When we’re not physically rescuing dogs from the shelters or taking them off the streets, we are coordinating fosters, adoptions, and transport, on the phone with vets, and trying to figure out how we can save more dogs! Because of this, we aren’t able to respond to every single email or message we get. (And we apologize for this!) If we think you’re the right fit for one of our dogs, we will respond as quickly as possible. However, if you don’t hear from us after two weeks, please feel free to follow up via email! We promise we don’t bite.
